Artwork description: “The work is focused on “Investigating childhood media exposure in shaping individual interests”. Towards the center, a boy wearing a backpack walked past a school and a playground while staring down at his phone. From the phone a large stream of light spreads to the left of the boy, which taints the playground and school with Social Media icons. The phone’s light sharply illuminates the boy and the area behind him, which fills the lit space with social media icons, while the unlit parts of the background remain dull and dark. Below the boy, a shadow of a child happily holding balloons symbolizes the loss of childhood innocence and interest due to the influence of social media. By showing how the child is focused on the phone, while the places that represent childhood like the playground and the school are tainted by social media icons, the work highlights the loss of childhood interest and innocence in areas of childhood due to early media exposure.
