Artwork description: “This piece studies the cycles and scales of the universe,and our own place within the chaos.“Self-Similarity” is aconcept found in fractals–infinitely complex objects:It refers to how objectsmaintain identity when observed at any scale. Often, people adopt a nihilistic mindset whenobserving our lives from the scale of the universe, however I argue that we are all microsms of these larger processes– that reality itself has “self-similarity”.The ocean connotes cycles, change, and rebirth; I used skeletons of marine creatures to represent how death marks the end,while the pearls represent how death marks the beginning, since pearls begin with the death of a parasite. The hands represent the presence of an omniscient “Designer” who governs thesecycles to create purpose and meaning within our own lives and orderacross the universe. We reflect this aspect of the Designer as we have theability to create our own purpose by living an active existence.“
