Artwork description: Golden Embrace, rendered in ink, captures the emotion of watching a loved one slowly succumb to time. Inspired by seniors and individuals facing terminal illness, often with the absence of consistent family connection, the piece reflects sympathy and the call to be present. Unlike traditional drawings, the composition is built entirely from words rather than strokes, and through optical mixing, overlapping words with varied sizes create shifts in value that form the overall image. Up close, the viewer sees only the words of a poem, but from a distance, those words shift into the pair of hands and the background. The poem itself uses the clock as a metaphor for mortality, each midnight reflecting the fear of time running out and the need to cherish loved ones. Large golden letters repeating the final word, “Embrace,” are painted in golden ink to emphasize that though time with loved ones may be brief, one must take the chance to love them that much more.
